Dear Mountain Partnership Members and Friends,
As we approach the celebrations for the 10th anniversary of the International Year of Mountains (2002), we are pleased to announce that we have nearly completed the screening of the numerous projects (over 80) that were submitted on sustainable mountain development to be funded through an FAO resource mobilization strategy in 2013.
The chosen proposal will be selected by an FAO panel and announced on the occasion of the International Mountain Day 2012 (11 December). It will be showcased on the FAO, Mountain Partnership and IMD websites along with the details of the project's implementation.
In addition, the redesigned International Mountains Day website will be launched at the beginning of November featuring the IMD communication material (4 leaflets on biodiversity, climate change, water, and food and nutrition) in all the six UN languages. This year's approach has been to reduce printing, engage youth and better employ the web and social media as a vehicle to deliver content. Therefore a series of young designers have been commissioned to design the communication material which will be available online. While waiting to launch, all the IMD information can be found on http://www.fao.org/mnts/en/
We encourage all our members to communicate to us their planned celebrations and events of their country or institution so we can disseminate them on the website prior to IMD and provide assistance and support where necessary to ensure the engagements of civil society and other partners to take part in the celebrations. For further info please email: [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>
In the follow up to the International Mountain Day 2012 please do not forget to send us a report about the celebrations. We would also appreciate receiving feedback on the relevance and usefulness of the communication material we provided.
Kind Regards
Thomas Hofer
