Dear Mountain Partnership Friends,
This week the international agreement that is expected to come out of the UN climate change summit (UNFCCC COP21) in December is being discussed. The Bonn Climate Change Conference, which is taking place until 23 October, presents a good opportunity to request the inclusion of mountains in the discussions and decisions.
Mountains are a fragile ecosystem, highly affected by climate change as we all know.
If your government or organization is represented in Bonn this week, please request that mountains be included in the discussions.
Member organizations that have access rights to the UNFCCC submission portal may submit a written statement. In the past, Mountain Partnership members with observer status have even called for a working group on climate change in mountains.
In closing, we wish to remind you about the petition calling for climate action on mountains. Climate change is exacerbating poverty, and is advancing in mountain areas fast. Mountain communities are already among the world's poorest and hungriest. In acknowledgment of the impact climate change is having on mountains - where glaciers are melting, water availability is varying and the risk of disaster is rising - please sign the petition to show that mountains matter. http://chn.ge/1Lm8Fpk
Thank you.
Best regards,
The Mountain Partnership Secretariat
