Dear Mountain Partnership Members and Friends,
We are writing to you with two urgent initiatives concerning climate change in mountains:
Special report proposed on climate change in mountains
The Government of Switzerland is planning to propose an Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Special Report on Mountains<http://www.mountainpartnership.org/news/news-detail/en/c/345666/>, for which the support of specialized institutions and organizations is requested. Such a report would broaden knowledge of climate change issues in mountains, put the science before key audiences and generally raise awareness of the challenges mountain communities are facing as the temperature rises.
Would your institution or organization be interested in endorsing the proposal for an IPCC report dedicated to how climate change is affecting mountain dwellers and environments? Andrew Taber of The Mountain Institute (TMI), the Mountain Partnership Steering Committee Chair, is collecting the names of organizations available to support this proposal for a special report on mountains. Please send an email - by Thursday 26 November 2015 - to the TMI Executive Director<mailto:[log in to unmask]> to let him know if your organization's name may be affixed to this proposal and if you wish to be involved in the preparation of such report. Also let him know if your organization would potentially be interested in contributing to or otherwise participating in the development of such a report.
Last week to sign the petition
The Mountain Partnership has been promoting a petition calling for climate action in mountains that will be presented at UNFCCC COP21 in Paris, France, in early December. The more signatures the petition bears, the stronger the call. Please be sure to sign and encourage as many friends and colleagues as you can to join the campaign by 29 November: http://chn.ge/1Lm8Fpk
Thank you for your support.
Best regards,
The Mountain Partnership Secretariat
