Dear all,

You are receiving this email as focal point of a Mountain Partnership civil society organization.

As you may know, since last October the Mountain Partnership Secretariat jointly with several members has been very engaged in seeking adequate attention for mountains in the Post-2015 development agenda and, in particular, in the Sustainable Development Goals. This new set of Goals will replace the Millennium Development Goals as of 2015.

This process is taking place at the United Nations in New York and is mainly led by about 70 governments<http://sustainabledevelopment.un.org/index.php?menu=1549> who are part of the Open Working Group.

However, Major Group organizations accredited at ECOSOC can also participate in some sessions and submit statements. If your organization is accredited with ECOSOC, it would be great if you could submit a statement in support of mountains.

A proposed text is attached - feel free to modify it as you see fit.

Regarding how to submit a statement, please find below the message received from Ms Laise Copolillo Ayres -- [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> -- Major Groups Programme of ECOSOC:

"As per the OWG resolution, only ECOSOC-accredited organization can register for the Open Working Group. A list of these organizations can be found at http://esango.un.org/paperless/reports/E2010INF4.pdf. Alternatively, you may contact the organizing partners that would be most pertinent to the goals of your organization. A complete list can be found here: http://sustainabledevelopment.un.org/orgpartners.html.

With regards to submitting statements, we encourage you to visit our website at http://sustainabledevelopment.un.org/majorgroups.html . Here, you can scroll to the "contact us" section, and request log in credentials. Once you have these credentials, you will be able to post your own documents, and engage with those posted by other Major Groups and other stakeholders. You can also contribute through the Google doc, a tool we use to foster input from stakeholders from around the world"

Despite our collective efforts, mountains are still only weakly mentioned in the latest draft - your help is needed to urge giving them higher priority!

Please do not hesitate to contact us for further information.

Many thanks and kind regards,

Rosalaura
