Dear Members of the Mountain Partnership, dear Friends

On behalf of our team at the Mountain Partnership Secretariat, I want to thank all of you for the common efforts we have made towards sustainable mountain development in 2013.
Good results have been achieved this year, especially with the Global Meeting in Erzurum, Turkey. We have embarked on an important revision process of the Mountain Partnership, based on the experiences gained and lessons learned from the past ten years of its existence, and are now preparing to implement the new Strategy and Governance that will be in effect for the next four years. In Erzurum, the representatives of the newly established and elected Mountain Partnership Steering Committee met and they are currently reviewing the workplan for the next two years. Our Partnership is now much stronger, and your commitment is very important and highly valued.
We continue to strive to keep mountains high on the international agenda - this year we have done so at events such as the Global Landscapes Forum in Warsaw, Poland; the Mountain Focus Group meeting and the International Mountain Day event, both in New York, USA. A publication "Mountain Farming is Family Farming" has been recently published with noteworthy contributions from many Mountain Partnership members: http://www.mountainpartnership.org/news/news-detail/en/c/209925/
Many significant activities have taken place at national and local level, engaging both governments and civil society groups. For instance, this year the International Mountain Day 2013 was celebrated in an untold number of countries and organizations.
I look forward to our collaboration and your continued support in 2014, which will be a very challenging and important year for the mountain agenda, especially with regard to ensuring mountains are included in the Post-2015 development agenda, in particular, in the sustainable development goals. I send you our best wishes for a relaxing holiday season and a Happy New Year.

Happy New Year, Bonne année, Feliz año nuevo, Felice anno nuovo!

Thomas Hofer
