Greetings Mountain Partnership members and friends,

Today, on International Mountain Day (IMD) 2015, the Mountain Partnership Secretariat is pleased to announce the launch its new publication "Mapping the vulnerability of mountain peoples to food insecurity" at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome, Italy.
The study reveals some alarming data about hunger in the mountains, showing that one in three people living in the mountainous areas of developing countries is facing hunger and malnutrition and that in the last decade mountain dwellers' living conditions have continued to deteriorate. The study presents an updated geographic and demographic picture of the world's mountain areas and assesses the vulnerability to food insecurity of mountain dwellers in developing countries.
The publication gives voice to the plight of mountain people and sends a message to policy-makers on the importance of including mountain development in their agendas as well as specific measures and investments that could break the cycle of poverty and hunger of mountain communities and slow outmigration from mountain areas.
"Mapping the vulnerability of mountain peoples to food insecurity" is available for download on the FAO website<http://www.fao.org/3/a-i5175e.pdf>.
