Leading mountain sustainability through innovation<https://www.fao.org/mountain-partnership/events/event-detail/en/c/1611703/>
COP 27 Cryosphere Pavilion
9 November 2022 | 18.00–19.30 (Sharm el-Sheikh time)

Dear Mountain Partnership members and friends,

The complexity of the environmental, cultural and economic challenges standing in the way of cryosphere and sustainable mountain development requires a paradigm shift and a change of perspective. Public administration, the private sector, the scientific community and local stakeholders need to work together to find innovative ways to better understand and address global trends and local realities.

This event at 18.00–19.30 on 9 November 2022 in the COP 27 Cryosphere Pavilion will focus on how to build interdisciplinary and inter-institutional environments to co-develop and implement solutions for tackling challenges related to climate change in mountain regions, and the adoption of innovation, new technologies and change management in cryosphere and mountain regions.

Session aims

· Spotlight different innovative solutions currently being implemented across cryosphere and mountain regions.

· Consider who the key stakeholders are, what synergies exist between them and how can they promote enabling conditions for further investment and policy development.

Session speakers

· Eric Chavez Betancourt, Asociación Oikos, Mountain Partnership member (moderator)

· Stefan Uhlenbrook, Director of Hydrology, Water and Cryosphere, World Meteorological Organization (WMO)

· Juan Chang Olivas, Head of Technical Operations, Permian Global

· Adriana Vidal, Senior Policy Officer, International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)

· Anil Mishra, Chief of Hydrological Systems, Climate Change and Adaptation, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)

· Onno Rühl, General Manager, Aga Khan Agency for Habitat (AKAH), (virtual)
