Happy International Mountain Day 2012!

The United Nations General Assembly has designated 11 December, from 2003 onwards, as "International Mountain Day". FAO is the U.N. Organization mandated to lead the observance of International Mountain Day each year.

Ten years after the International Year of Mountains, the focus of this year's International Mountain Day is to celebrate mountain life and sustainable mountain development, drawing attention to the function of mountains at global level and to the goods and services they provide for all humankind.

Click here<http://youtu.be/KwCIf0Xw8UI> to watch Thomas Hofer, Interim Coordinator of the Mountain Partnership Secretariat, give a video message for this year's event. The MPS/FAO, with the financial support of the World Bank, has also produced an animated video on Climate Change and Mountains: http://youtu.be/IdCsymnecnU

The Food and Agriculture Organization has launched a revamped tri-lingual website (http://www.fao.org/forestry/internationalmountainday/en/) where you will find all information including a poster, four information fact sheets, the IMD logo in all UN languages as well as information on the events taking place around the world. Don't forget to send us reports about the celebrations of the Day in your country or institution - please contact [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.

Best Regards,

The Mountain Partnership Secretariat
