Call for Expressions of Interest to participate in Knowledge to Action Lab

Dear Mountain Partnership member and friends,

We would like to draw your attention to the following possibility to contribute to the work of the Nairobi work programme's Lima Adaptation Knowledge Initiative in Asia:

Effectively adapting to climate change has become one of the most pressing needs of our time. Resilient communities are necessarily the result of the integration of adaptation into development. Integrating adaptation knowledge into development knowledge, with a view to better inform development action and improve development outcomes, is a priority. Place- and context-based scientific knowledge is needed to inform better adaptation action. Forums and platforms which can bring together researchers, the community of policy actors, practitioners and financial actors would contribute significantly in creating new knowledge, repackaging and disseminating existing knowledge and fostering the integration of adaptation learnings into development.

With this vision, the Global Development Network<http://www.gdn.int/>, the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD)<http://www.icimod.org/>, OXFAM<https://www.oxfam.org.uk/>, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) India<https://www.giz.de/en/worldwide/368.html>, the UNFCCC<https://unfccc.int/nwp> and UN Environment<https://www.unenvironment.org/>, are collaborating to organize a Knowledge to Action Lab which aims to define a strategy and develop tools to close knowledge gaps in the Hindukush Himalaya subregion and downstream countries (South and Southeast Asia).

The Knowledge to Action Lab will take place from 20-21 November 2018 in New Delhi, India, and will focus specifically on the challenges and opportunities to link, on one hand, adaptation research and, on the other, implementation knowledge and data in the context of projects funded by multilateral and bilateral climate funds focusing on upstream-downstream interactions. Adaptation efforts financed by the different investment banks, the private sector, and global climate funds are consistently in need of data, information and knowledge to encourage adequate adaptation. The proposition of the Lab is that close interaction between researchers and implementers working on adaptation can significantly strengthen both adaptation action and research agendas on adaptation.

We would like to invite your organization to participate in this Call of Expressions of Interest (attached for easy reference), by encouraging some of your researchers working on projects in the HKH subregion and downstream countries (South and Southeast Asia) to fill in the online application<https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WHWVLTL> form before October 12th, 2018 at 23:59 (IST).

A closed number of participants will be selected on a competitive basis to take part in the Lab, by GDN, ICIMOD, Oxfam, GIZ India, UNFCCC and UN Environment. Selected researchers will be matched with 'knowledge users' and selected climate finance institutions and actors, identified and nominated by the organizers based on the focus of the submissions received, to participate in the Lab on 20-21 November in New Delhi, India. Financial assistance may be available for some of the selected candidates from developing countries to attend to the Knowledge to Action Lab. For more information on the Lab, please find attached the concept note. Should you have any enquiries please contact [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>

Kind regards,

The Mountain Partnership Secretariat
