Dear Members and Friends of the Mountain Partnership,

Ten years after the International Year of Mountains 2002 and on the occasion of the 10th celebration of the International Mountain Day (IMD), FAO has undertaken a review of the IMD concept in order to revisit its mission and improve its impact. In this context, FAO is looking at the themes of all past IMD editions and revisiting them in the light of the latest debates and initiatives concerning the sustainable development of mountain areas.

For this purpose, the 2012 IMD theme will be on Sustainable Mountain Development and will focus on issues related to mountain ecosystems, including climate change, food security and many other compelling topics, providing also regional insights. Communication materials will consist of a folder containing ten factsheets, each dedicated to an issue and a poster.

FAO is trying to reduce the impact on the environment and costs associated with printing. Hence, communication material (factsheets and poster) will be available online on the new IMD website that will be launched early in September and readily downloadable as of the last week of October in high and low resolution.

A message will be sent announcing the launch of the new website and its new features very soon.

Should you have specific requests or would you like to have further information please contact [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> at the Mountain Partnership Secretariat.

Many thanks and kind regards,

Mountain Partnership Secretariat
