Call for case studies for a publication of best agro-ecological and organic farming practices in mountain areas

Dear Mountain Partnership members and friends,

This is a call for case studies for the publication "Agro-ecological and organic farming practices in mountain areas" (exact title TBD). In order to raise awareness about sustainable agricultural farming practices in mountain areas, the Mountain Partnership Secretariat (MPS) is preparing a publication that highlights the role of agro-ecological or organic farming practices while enhancing livelihoods and food security.
Mountain Agriculture largely consists of family farming and pastoralism and is crucial in ensuring household food security and shaping mountain landscapes. Sustainable production practices and the conservation of agrobiodiversity in mountains ensure dietary diversity and quality, generate income for sustainable smallholder farmers, and aid in the restoration and preservation of ecosystems.
We invite you to contribute a case study for the publication.
Case studies should highlight one of the following broad themes:

*         Agro-ecological farming practices: an example that demonstrates one of FAO's 10 elements of agroecology <http://www.fao.org/agroecology/knowledge/10-elements/en/> ;

* Organic farming practices: an example that shows the impact of organic farming practices linked to the 4 principles of organic agriculture<https://www.ifoam.bio/en/organic-landmarks/principles-organic-agriculture> or demonstrates Participatory Guarantee System (PGS).
Please send your case studies to Michelle Geringer at [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> by 9 June 2019 with the following information:

?  An abstract summarizing the contents of the case study (max 1 page), e.g. explaining the farming practice and describing the role of agro-ecological or organic farming practices in mountain areas that enhance livelihoods and food security and improve resilience of mountain communities and ecosystems;

? Country (or countries) of the case study; and

? Focus theme(s) of the case study.

The case studies featured in the publication will be selected from the submissions. We will contact you in June if your case study is selected. If your proposal is selected, the full case study (up to 1,000 words) will need to be provided and submitted with 5 high-quality images (maximum), of which some will be used.

All the selected case studies will be acknowledged in the publication. Out of the submissions, two case studies will be selected and the authors invited to participate and present at the Forum: Origin Diversity and Territories<https://origin-for-sustainability.org/en/> from 4-6 December 2019 in Lausanne, Switzerland.

We hope that you will find this request of interest and look forward to hearing back from you.
Please forward this email and its attachment to anyone else who may be interested in submitting a case study.

Many thanks and kind regards,

The Mountain Partnership Secretariat
