Dear Mountain Partnership members and friends,

The International Cryosphere Climate Initiative (ICCI) will coordinate the Cryosphere Pavilion at the UNFCCC COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt on 6-18 November 2022, building on the success of the first Cryosphere Pavilions at COP25 and COP26.

The COP27 venue will provide a place for permanent exhibits, cultural events and ministerial-level events as well as informational side events based on the UNFCCC side event model. The programme of the COP27 Cryosphere Pavilion will include one or more specific focus days for each of the following topics, with targeted side events (six, 90-minute slots per day) including ministerial-level speeches and strong youth and Indigenous participation:

* Implementation to Avert Overshoot: Pathways to Emissions Reductions

* Mountains: Glaciers and Snow: Centuries of Impacts on Water Resources

* Polar Oceans: Long-tailed Legacy of Acidification, Warming and Freshening

* Ice Sheets: Overshoot Thresholds for Irreversible Sea-level Rise

* Permafrost: Centuries of Carbon Emissions from Overshoot

* Absent Arctic Summer Sea Ice: Global Feedbacks

* Evening Cultural events: opportunity for virtual viewing and accredited participants to enjoy a cultural event (art, music, etc.) connecting the creative community and cryosphere and/or climate change

As one of the main topics is related to mountains, we would like to enquire whether your government or organization is already organizing or intending to organize an event/activity in the COP27 Cryosphere Pavilion. If so, we request that you please share details with us by 22 August 2022 to further align our members and maximize impact at COP27.

More information can be found via these links - note: the final deadline to apply for events in the Cryosphere Pavilion is 31 August 2022:

* Cryosphere Pavilion side event application page<https://iccinet.org/submit-an-application-to-host-a-side-event-at-the-cop-27-cryosphere-pavilion/>

Thank you.

With kind regards,

The Mountain Partnership Secretariat
