Dear Members,

We are now in the final week of the discussion “Food Security and Nutrition in APEC Economies. Sharing lessons learned and looking into the future<http://bit.ly/1MZIgh7>” and we would like to share with you the comments received during these last days.

As you know, the exchange complemented the APEC Food Security Training and Workshop hosted by the Chinese Academy of Agriculture Sciences in Beijing on September 7-9, 2015. The organizers have now prepared an overall summary<http://bit.ly/1OO1wPF> of the meeting. In addition, you can have a look at the detailed reports of Day 1<http://bit.ly/1j67r6I>, Day 2<http://bit.ly/1NJBXi1> and Day 3<http://bit.ly/1NJBXi1> of the workshop, the list of participants<http://bit.ly/1OO1wPF> and download the presentations<http://bit.ly/1KxyRbn> used by the lecturers.

The Food Security situation in Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) economies<http://www.apec.org/> is very diverse and precisely because of this a lot can be learned by sharing experiences. We therefore invite you to take advantage of these last days of discussion to learn from others and contribute your views on:

· How can smallholder farmers benefit from global value chains?

· What are the challenges for policy implementation in your country related to food security research?

· How can we ensure the participation of youth in the wider food security dialogue?

· What is the most striking example of measures that have improved food security and nutrition in your country in the last decade?

Please visit the discussion website<http://bit.ly/1MZIgh7> to see all comments received to date and to read the introductory message, which is available in English<http://bit.ly/1MZIgh7>, French<http://bit.ly/1NUMIhQ>, Spanish<http://bit.ly/1XalfwB> and Chinese<http://bit.ly/1USWIrV>.

Please send your comments in any of these four languages to [log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]> or post them online on the discussion page.

We look forward to receiving your comments!

[cid:image004.png@01D0F55A.350CD6C0]Emile Houngbo, Agricultural University of Ketou (UAK), Benin

Emile focuses on the high level of poverty which prevails among small farmers and the delay in the process of agricultural transition in certain regions of the world, particularly in Africa and Asia. To reduce this poverty, Emile suggests to engage smallholders in agro-ecology and to take pertinent steps to highlight agro-ecological products in the market. [...]

[cid:image004.png@01D0F55A.350CD6C0]Max Blanck, FAO, Italy

Max argues that despite the fact that challenges faced by APEC members are very diverse, the responsibilities of the governments remain the same. They need to put in place policies that create an environment in which citizens can be food secure according to all four food security dimensions. As APEC members are in very different stages of development and employ different types of government a lot can be learned by exchanging experiences. [...]

[cid:image004.png@01D0F55A.350CD6C0]Eric Kimbembe, CAAS, Congo

Eric calls for more innovative information to be shared through conferences and trainings in order to give young professionals the necessary knowledge they need to make a difference in the fight against food insecurity. [...]

[cid:image004.png@01D0F55A.350CD6C0]Aigo Alun, AII CAAS, China

Aigo feels that the key to the participation of youth in the wider food security dialogue is to attract their attention to food insecurity. He suggests television commercials, brochures and courses at school as ways to teach youth about the importance of this concept. [...]
