Dear Partners and Observers,

We are pleased to provide you with updates on recent and forthcoming events and activities of the Partnership:


*         Working Group on Capacity Building for Sustainable Development (WGCB)


o   Activity Group 3 - The Fifth Bioenergy Week was successfully held on 22-24 June 2017 in Accra (Ghana). The conclusions and list of participants of the event will be circulated in the next few days.



o   Activity Group 4 - We are pleased to circulate the list of research for workstream on industrial wood energy, finalized in light of inputs received by Partners and Observers and to be discussed at the next GBEP meetings in Rome for further considerations.



o   Activity Group 6 - We are pleased to confirm that further to the approval of the 2017 Scope of Work, we are organizing an event on "Bioenergy, water and SDG implementation: experiences and linkages" to be held on 31 August at the World Water Week 2017 in Stockholm (Sweden). Attached please find a tentative agenda of the event. We take this opportunity to remind you that a registration fee is foreseen to access the World Water Week and therefore the GBEP event. Interested members can follow the link to register http://www.worldwaterweek.org/practical-information/



o   Activity Groups on Biogas and Advanced Biofuels - We would like to thank all Partners and Observers for the inputs provided, and we are glad to circulate the revised versions of the new Activity Groups. We are also very pleased to announce that further to our call for co-leaders, Mr. Bah Saho from ECREEE and  Mr. Pham Quang Ha from Vietnam have kindly volunteered to act as co-leaders of the AG7 on Biogas, while regarding the AG8 on Advanced Biofuels bilateral discussions of the GBEP Secretariat with tentatively interested partners to take the role of co-leaders are still in progress. The Secretariat will provide more details in due time.




*         Task Force on Sustainability (TFS)



o   The GBEP workshop on "Linkages between Sustainable Development Goals and GBEP Sustainability Indicators" was successfully held on 3-4 July 2017 in Bonn (Germany). Conclusions of the event will be circulated in the next few days.



o   Call for TFS co-Chairs - We are extremely pleased to announce that Mr. Takashi Hayashi from Japan, Ms. Annalisa Zezza from Italy and Mr. Ahmed Abdelati Ahmed from Egypt kindly expressed their willingness to support Mr. Otu-Danquah Kwabena in his role as Co-Chair of the TFS. We take this opportunity to thank them for their kind availability and support.




*         Next GBEP regular meetings



o   The 9th GBEP Working Group on Capacity Building, 15th GBEP Task Force on Sustainability and 20th Steering Committee meetings will be held during the week 27 November - 1 December 2017 at FAO Headquarters in Rome (Italy). Exact dates and agendas will be circulated in due time.
