Dear Partners and Observers,
We would like to thank you for your active participation in the GBEP meetings which took place in Rome (Italy) on 29 November-2 December 2016, at FAO Headquarters. We are pleased to circulate the Co-Chairs Summary of the 19th GBEP Steering Committee, the Co-Chair Conclusions of the 8th GBEP Working Group on Capacity Building and the Co-Chairs Conclusions of the 14th GBEP Task Force on Sustainability meetings. The lists of participants can be downloaded from the GBEP website<http://www.globalbioenergy.org/events/events-2016/en/?no_cache=1>
Regarding the next steps agreed during the Rome meetings, we would like to draw your attention to the followings, for your kind feedback and input:
GBEP Working Group on Capacity Building
* Activity Group 3 - By 15 January 2017 Partners and Observers are kindly invited to send suggestions on themes, speakers and relevant experts to be invited at the next Bioenergy Week, to be held in July 2017 in Ghana. The GBEP Secretariat will draft and circulate an agenda of the 2017 Bioenergy Week on the basis of these inputs.
* Activity Group 4 - By 15 January 2017 Partners and Observers are invited to provide inputs on relevant documents/publications on industrial-scale wood energy. The GBEP Secretariat will collate the research already conducted in this area, with the view to produce a list of relevant literature on this theme. This list will inform future AG4 discussions during the next regular GBEP meetings in 2017.
* Activity Group 6 - By 23 December 2016 AG6 members are invited to send their inputs on the 2017 Scope of work, in addition to the possible deliverables discussed during the meetings in Rome. These inputs will form the basis for a draft Scope of Work to be prepared by the AG6 leader, and then circulated and discussed by 13 Jan 2017. A final Scope of Work will be submitted for approval to GBEP Partners and Observers by 3 February 2017.
* Future Activities on "Biogas" and "Advanced Biofuels" - The GBEP Secretariat will prepare background notes on these topics, to be circulated by March/April 2017. Discussions among Partners and Observers for clarification and decision-making purposes might be held electronically or with a teleconference, if deemed necessary. In light of these discussions, if considered appropriate, the Activity Groups could be approved remotely and start working prior to the GBEP regular meetings in November 2017
GBEP Task Force on Sustainability
* The three sub-groups (Environmental, Social, Economic) were re-opened: By 31 December 2016 Partners and Observers are kindly requested to express their interest to join the sub-groups, in order to support sub-group leaders to create electronic groups. The e-groups will be operational starting from January 2017.
The table on country experiences of the implementation of the GBEP indicators (the TFS scope of work including the table as an Annex is attached for your convenience) will represent the basis for the work of the three sub-groups.
We look forward to seeing you again at the next GBEP events.
Kind regards,
GBEP Secretariat
