Ramona,

I wanted to stress that the PUID should be treated with the same care as ACCENUMB currently is in gene banks.

> Therefore, the genebanks and other entities (e.g. breeders) with PGR collections are the ones who will need to (1) obtain a PUID and (2) maintain that PUID forever just next to the ACCENUMB and (3) always include the PUID when sharing data.

and I forgot to include “(2.5) never modify the PUID (read-only to keep it permanent) even when ACCENUMB or any other field is altered.”

And the “forever” should be removed — it should be maintained as long as the accession record exists in their databases. Here I would like to call for another update to MCPD, a mechanism that allows gene banks to specify whether a record is ACTIVE or HISTORIC. I would call it RECORDSTATUS.

The above would allow for updating the metadata in GLIS, regardless of operational changes of INSTCODEs and ACCENUMBs. GLIS would then be able to also track the history of changes to accession data.

Best,
