Dear all,
It is time to send you all good wishes for 2014 and a peaceful holiday season.
One more year, where FAO/INFOODS were very successful.
This year, most efforts from our group was on the development of the FAO/INFOODS e-Leaning Course on Food Composition Data. I have the pleasure informing you that we have about 300 registered e-learners and over 150 CDs were ordered as of end of November. You can register or order a CD from http://www.fao.org/infoods/infoods/training/en/ . I hope these numbers will increase in the future and that it will be integrated into many university curricula and other training opportunities. Some training courses were already held with the e-learning course as a pre-requisite (e.g. Nigeria and at FAO for the GEF project). I would highly appreciate if you could inform me when and how the e-learning course was used.
Also the 10th IFDC in Granda was a succes thanks to the organizing and scientific committees but especially due to Emilio and his team. I heard many positive feedback about the excellent quality of oral and poster presentations - so also a big thanks to all presenters. I am sure that in 2015, we will have another successful conference in Hyderabad, India.
I also would like to thank all those who dedicated time and efforts to food composition activities and to INFOODS. Especially I would like to mention the particiapants of the working group to attribute AOAC methods to tagnames who spent a lot of time and efforts on this issue. The AOAC methods for tagnames will be published early next year. This is an important step forward.
In this context, I wish to announce that FAO has extended the access for INFOODS to AOAC methods for 2014. We heard from many experts that this access was very useful for their work.
I have heard on several occasions that the INFOODS listserv was valued for the information exchange and discussion fora. I hope that you all will continue posting your questions and reply when you can. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all for sharing your knowlwdge, especially Anders Moeller who is providing regularily good information and ideas.
Many INFOODS regional data centers are active or others will be strengthened in the near future.
I wish you all (and your families) a Merry Christmas and all the best for 2014
