Dear Colleagues,
As a follow-up to a previous e mail exchange on INFOODS list serve in relation to food categorization systems, I am pleased to share with you the invitation to an introductory training on the FoodEx2 food classification and description system.
The training will be held in the form of two webinars by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) on September 26th (part 1) and October 3rd (part 2) from 11am - 12pm CEST. This training is an opportunity for everyone who is interested in learning more on FoodEx2 system and on using it to code in a harmonized way food consumption or/and food composition data.
Please, find the announcement and online registration point in the following link:

FoodEx2 and FAO/WHO GIFT (Global Individual Food consumption data Tool):
FoodEx2 food classification and description system was developed by EFSA to serve as a harmonization tool for EU Member States. The system is a flexible combination of classifications and descriptions, including a number of hierarchies for different domains and a multitude of core terms and facets. Mainly its flexibility and comprehensiveness decided on the fact, that FAO/WHO GIFT initiative<http://www.fao.org/gift-individual-food-consumption/en/> started using FoodEx2 as a harmonization tool for food consumption as well as food composition data which are shared through its platform. Together with EFSA, FAO and WHO worked at scaling up FoodEx2 to serve for data harmonization globally.
FoodEx2 learning opportunities:
As a part of data acquisition activity to fill in FAO/WHO GIFT, several trainings in data mapping with FoodEx2 were co-organized by FAO and EFSA for data managers from institutions owning individual quantitative food consumption data. We also warmly encourage all data owners who wish to share their data through the FAO/WHO GIFT platform to take this great opportunity to learn the basics and principles of the FoodEx2 system.
DON'T FORGET!:
In order to fully participate in the training, all the participants are strongly encouraged to take the following preparatory steps before:
* Download the latest version of the Catalogue Browser from the EFSA website and install it on your computer: https://github.com/openefsa/catalogue-browser/wiki
* Go through the supporting documents which can be found on the registration website<https://www.efsa.europa.eu/en/events/event/180926>
* Install and test Adobe Connect which will be used to hold the training: https://asib-emea.adobeconnect.com/common/help/en/support/meeting_test.htm
Best regards
