Dear David,

The context of the ENPADASI project (www.enpadasi.eu)<http://www.enpadasi.eu)/>, we are working on a few relevant applications with regard to ontologies in nutrition. (I CC the coordinators here for possible follow-up).

We are now developing an Ontology for Nutrition Studies, which will link various types of nutrition data, including food composition (links with foodex2) but also “omics”, dietary assessment and nutritional epidemiology. A release of ONS is planned soon and we are showcasing an application with www.ontoforce.com<http://www.ontoforce.com/> in November in Brussels https://europa.eu/newsroom/events/quantitative-methods-integrated-food-and-nutrition-security-measurements_en

The project has also developed useful infrastructure to handle, share nutrition research data and make it interoperable (https://dashin.eu/interventionstudies/) and various applications for interoperable dietary assessment data

We have developed quality descriptors for nutrition study data (metadata) and minimal study data requirements (a paper on the first is forthcoming, I will send it to you when published)

I hope this is useful. We’ll be happy to discuss more and follow-up on this,

Carl

Subject: Ontology of Foods

Hello:

USDA is in the process of developing a new databases system for managing food composition data and desires to make ontology part of this system. Is anyone aware of any computer programs for managing ontologies for foods integrating information from agriculture, food technology, and human nutrition? Also, has anyone worked on ontologies in this area or developed models and has any information they can shere?

Thank you,

David
