Subject: A New FAO Publication – ‘Dietary assessment – Guide
Dear Colleagues,
A New FAO Publication – ‘Dietary assessment – Guide
I’m glad to let your know that a new publication, “Dietary assessment – a resource guide to method selection and application in low resource settings” has just been published by FAO.
The Guide can be freely downloaded from the FAO website click here<http://www.fao.org/3/I9940EN/i9940en.pdf>
[cid:image002.jpg@01D406EE.F7C56940]With funding support from the European Union, this Guide aims to providing a comprehensive overview of dietary assessment, and which has taken into account the challenges in the selection of the most appropriate assessment method.
Dietary assessment includes an evaluation of food, nutrient intake and dietary pattern of an individual, or individuals at household level or in a population group over time.
Why would the new resource guide may fit your needs?
It is not easy to find a manual that clearly and concisely contains the fundamental and practical steps to be addressed in order to designate and carry out a study.
This resource guide is written for professionals who play an active role in the selection of an appropriate dietary assessment method for use in dietary surveys, project monitoring and impact evaluation. It is a step-by-step guide, which has covered methodological considerations, including strength, limitations and experiences obtained from low resource settings, and practical tips for applications in the field. It would help to design your specific study to generate better evidence for effective nutrition policies, programmes and projects.
How would the resource guide improve the method selection and its application?
Following this guide, professionals and researchers will be guided to collect more reliable, accurate and high quality dietary information by identifying and addressing key issues, such as the study objectives, available resources, target population characteristics, cultural aspects etc. prior to the selection of a suitable dietary assessment method.
We hope that the present resource guide will help you to improve collection of nutrition data and related indicators for your specific purpose.
Please, feel free to share this Guide widely within your networks.
