Hi everyone,
Some final publications from my side before I leave for the States on Tuesday: USDA's outlook on food security and FAO/OECD agricultural projections (2016-2025).
I'm retiring from FAO next Tuesday and looking forward to going back to my condo in Washington DC.

I've had a great career: Peace Corps (6 years in West Africa), USDA (10 years in two different agencies), and now that I'm retiring from FAO (yippee) after 18 years, I'm on to the next adventure. I guess that my Peace Corps experience and the instilled "desire to serve and make a difference" will shape my interests/activities once I return to the US. I'm going to settle in my condo in Washington DC (in Alexandria, VA more precisely) while visiting my son, Sean, in Philadelphia, and my family in Minnesota.

While in retirement, I hope to refocus my energies to respond to John F. Kennedy's vision of "asking not what my country can do for me, but what I can do for my country". While I'm keeping my passion for cats (and forcing my Sean in Philadelphia to house two Tunisian cats), I'm hoping to get involved in political campaigning, lobby for women's reproductive rights (this obviously shouldn't be an issue in the US but seems to get worse and worse), engage in the "gun control" dialogue and look for opportunities to address income equality and poverty in the US. Maybe I'll have more of an impact than in the domain of international development. Sometimes I feel we only have a marginal impact on improving the planet and the suffering of the poor. However, I'm sure that collectively we are making the planet better (???).

If you are ever in DC, please stop by. My personal email is [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>
Nancy

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) produce annually since 2004, the OECD-FAO Agricultural Outlook. The publication presents a medium term assessment of production, consumption, stocks, trade and prices of major agricultural commodities, at national, regional and global levels. The findings are the result of a joint effort by experts from both organizations, and from collaborating member countries and international commodity organisations.
The projections are based on a global partial equilibrium model, supported by commodity experts' input. The model covers 44 countries, 15 regional aggregates and 25 commodities. In addition to generating baseline projections, the model is used as an analytical tool, for example to enhance our understanding of the complex interactions that take place during policy changes or unforeseen weather events.
