FAO/WHO JOINT MEDIA ADVISORY
Codex Alimentarius Commission – Rome, 2–6 July 2018



Measures to curb the use of pesticides and the prevalence of contaminants on the agenda


Alignment of food additives and package labelling also to be discussed




Members of the international food standards-setting body, the Codex Alimentarius Commission, will meet at FAO in Rome next week from 2-6 July. Highlights of the meeting include decisions on:

·         Alignment of food additives and full integration into the General Standard for Food Additives

·         New work on front of pack labelling

·         Contaminants:

§  Maximum levels for cadmium in chocolate

§  Revised maximum levels for lead in food

§  Methylmercury in fish

§  Code of Practice on dioxins

·         Maximum Residue Limit for vet drugs and for pesticides

·         Guidance for Histamine Control in the Code of Practice for Fish and Fishery Products

In addition, there will be side-events on how to facilitate food trade, and the global burden of foodborne diseases.
