39th FAO Conference: 6-13 June
Presidents of Italy, Chile to speak at opening – DG elections - Awards to countries for progress in hunger fight
FAO's 197 Members<http://www.fao.org/about/who-we-are/en/> will meet from 6 - 13 June for the 39th biennial FAO Conference, the highest governing body of the Organization.
Over 130 ministers and 12 heads of state or government are expected to attend.
Participants will discuss trends in global hunger reduction and the current state of food and agriculture.<http://www.fao.org/3/a-mn422e.pdf>
The Conference will also elect the FAO Director-General for a four-year term and set the Organization's budget for the 2016-17 biennium at this session.

Election of the Director-General

The Conference will elect the FAO Director-General for the period July 2015 to July 2019. Voting will take place in a secret ballot by the organization's member countries. Each country has one vote.
Sunday, 7 June
Award Ceremony: Completing the MDG round – recognizing achievements in the fight against hunger
When: Sunday, June 7, 2015, 15:00 - 18:00 | Where: Plenary Hall
15 countries -- Angola, Bolivia, China, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Gabon, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Mali, Myanmar, Mozambique, Nepal, Oman, Solomon Island, Suriname, and Uzbekistan – will be recognized for achieving Millennium Development Goal 1c to halve the rate of hunger or the stricter World Food Summit (WFS) target of halving the number of hungry people. Overall, 72 out of 129 countries monitored have made the MDG1c target and 29 have made the WFS target. The presidents of the Gambia, Togo, Mali, Sao Tome and Principe; the prime ministers of Barbados, Ethiopia, Fiji, Gabon, Tunisia, and St Vincent and the Grenadines; and the Vice Premier of China are expected to attend this event (TBC).

FAO Director-General Jose Graziano da Silva will address the conference the Organization's work and results over the previous four years, global food security trends, and including hunger eradication as one of the new Sustainable Development Goals.
