FAO to release progress report on Sustainable Development goals

“Tracking progress on food and agriculture-related SDG indicators 2020” highlights data challenges amid pandemic strains

On 15 September 2020, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) will release “Tracking progress on food and agriculture-related SDG indicators 2020”. The report monitors and assesses progress on the 23 indicators of which FAO is the custodian agency.

FAO Chief Economist Maximo Torero and Pietro Gennari, the chief statistician, will present the report and field queries at the Geneva press briefing on Tuesday 15 September, 2020, at 10:30 local (CET) time. The report will be available here<http://www.fao.org/sdg-progress-report/en/>.

Each indicator, ranging from one measuring women’s access to secure land tenure to the goal of doubling rural smallholder labor productivity and incomes, is addressed and assessments of the data available are made.

COVID-19 disruptions have affected many agricultural censuses and surveys as well as other work that national statistical agencies do. FAO is offering support to find innovative ways, including the use of Big Data and geospatial satellite imagery, to overcome the disruptions.
