FAO Awards ceremony 2015 - 30 November
Former Director-General Jacques Diouf and Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission to attend the ceremony

On Monday, 30 November FAO will present awards to a group of regional and non-profit organizations and institutions, journalists, and UN staff for their outstanding contributions to achieving the global Zero Hunger goal by 2030.

The awards ceremony, at the start of the FAO Council, is the last in a series of events this year marking the 70th anniversary of FAO's founding.

Former FAO Director-General Jacques Diouf will attend and present an award named in his honor to Erastus Mwencha, Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC). The award recognizes the AUC's efforts to boost sustainable agriculture, food security and nutrition across the African continent.

The AUC shares the FAO Jacques Diouf Award with the World Rural Forum, a globe-spanning network of rural organizations and researchers.

The ceremony will feature a special musical performance by a well-known Rome-based musical group, the Piazza Vittorio Orchestra and a young multi-ethnic band the Piccola Orchestra di Tor Pignattara.

Other winners who will be present include:

Winner: National Geographic Society
Award: the A.H. Boerma Journalism Award for its ground-breaking series, The Future of Food.

Winner: The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives (MOAC) Thailand
Award: the Edouard Saouma Award for its work in combatting a destructive crop pest.

Winner: The Stop Illegal Fishing (SIF) Working Group, Botswana
Award: The Margarita Lizárraga Award for having effectively applied the Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries.

Winners: Mr Ciro Fiorillo, Mr Cyprien Felix Biaou, Ms Lalita Bhattacharjee, Mr Mamoudou DialloAward: The B.R. Sen Award given to FAO staff for their efforts to promote sustainable agriculture, build resilient rural communities, and improve food and nutrition security in the field.
