How climate change will affect global trade in food
FAO presents The State of World Agricultural Commodity Markets 2018 - Monday, 17 September 2018 (11:30h CEST)
How will climate-related changes in agricultural production affect global trade in food, and how can that trade be harnessed to help impacted countries feed their populations?
This is the question at the heart of a new FAO report, The State of Agricultural Commodity Markets 2018, being released on Monday 17 September. Journalists are invited to attend the briefing.
In addition to exploring the complex linkages between agricultural trade, climate change and food security, the report outlines diverse policy options for responding to these challenges.
The report stresses that climate change will affect both agricultural productivity and international trade patterns, but that at the same time international trade in food will remain an important tool that countries can use to cope with negative impacts.
The new report also includes an in-depth overview of the evolution of agricultural trade during the period 2000-2016 and the outlook for agricultural commodities moving forward.
