The greening of food value chains is a vital strategy in the achievement of food security and the response to climate change. Growth in the agriculture sector has the potential to lift millions out of poverty; however, food production and agriculture have a significant environmental impact. The session explores the business case for sustainability in food value chains. The discussion will leverage industry and country case studies, where the successful implementation of sustainable strategies have demonstrated improved yields and livelihoods, and more competitive value chains.

Panel:

* Sinéad McPhillips, Chief Economist, Department of Agriculture Food and the Marine, Ireland

* Fabian Muya, Alternate Permanent Representative, Kenya Embassy Rome

* Alison Cairns, Global Advocacy Director, Unilever

* David Bright, Head of Economic Justice programming, Oxfam Great Britain, and Oxfam International coordinator

Welcome address: Maria Helena Semedo, Deputy Director-General, FAO

Moderator: Kostas Stamoulis, Assistant Director-General, a.i., Economic and Social Development Department, FAO

Hi Nadia,

Just flagging that this is in the event script as discussed:

"KS opens the discussion to the floor, first inviting Nadia Scialabba to make a 1-minute intervention, related to SAFA, FAO's sustainability assessment tool and raise a related question to the panel."

Our director Rob Vos added the question - so giving you advance notice for one to link with SAFA and the preceding discussion.

Have a good weekend!

Best,

Cliodhnagh
