Dear Subscriber,
We are pleased to send you the new issue of the FAO Rice Price Update.

Brief commentary of the month:
ˇ In June, the FAO All Rice Price Index (2002-2004=100) fell for the tenth month in succession, shedding 1 percent from May and reaching a value of 213 points. The market weakness was pervasive, dominating all market segments and virtually all origins. Out of the four subdivisions, aromatic rice was the most affected, with the corresponding price sub-index falling by 1.7 percent on large production surpluses and a continued subdued import demand. Prices of Indica and Japonica rice also edged lower.
ˇ In Thailand, the benchmark Thai 100%B white rice was quoted at USD 385.3 per tonne in June, 2.2 percent below the USD 394 per tonne recorded in May. Thai prices for parboiled and fragrant rice also moved down, while they remain steady in the case of the fully broken A1 Super. The continued strong competition for markets caused prices to drop also in India and Viet Nam, but the negative pressure was similarly manifest in the Americas, including in Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and the United States.
ˇ According to the FAO All Rice Price Index, in the first half of 2015, international prices were 7.3 percent lower than in the corresponding period in 2014. Prices were down for all categories, except Japonica rice, which averaged 4 percent higher, consistent with the tight supplies available for trade this year.
