World School Milk Day is organised by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations, and this year will be celebrating its 15th annual event.
Since holding the first World School Milk Day celebrations in 2000, it has been recognised and honoured by over 30 different countries all over the world. The day continues to successfully promote the importance of drinking milk at school to children, in a fun, memorable and educational way.
This year, to coincide with the School Food Plan's revised standards, we want schools to join us as we celebrate school milk in England. The new school food standards state that "Lower fat milk or lactose-reduced milk must be available for drinking at least once per day, during school hours".
We believe that the introduction of this standard is important as it will mean all school children will be offered a fantastic opportunity to build strong, healthy bones and teeth, something definitely not to miss out on!

This year, to help mark the day and increase interest and excitement around milk, we've sent World School Milk Day Celebration Packs to schools up and down the country. We are encouraging them to decorate their classrooms with bunting and balloons and celebrate school milk with their pupils together with many other countries around the world.
