There are no global recommendations for milk and dairy consumption. Many countries have developed national dietary guidelines that are based on local food availability, cost, nutritional status, consumption patterns and food habits. Because of differences in these factors, recommendations vary widely. Most countries recommend at least one serving of milk daily, with some countries recommending up to three servings per day. Currently, many national and international bodies recommend consumption of lower-fat dairy foods for developed/high income countries to address problems of overweight and obesity.

For the dietary guidelines please see Annex Table 4.7 (pp.183-204) of the FAO book "Milk and Dairy Products in Human Nutrition". The book can be downloaded from www.dairyasia.org<http://www.dairyasia.org>

Hope this helpful.

Subject: Global recommendations on milk consumption?

Dairy Outlook is a service of FAO's Trade and Markets Division<http://www.fao.org/economic/est/est-commodities/dairy/en/>

Dear Michael and Dairy Outlook members,

Many countries have recommendations on milk consumption. I have often seen references to WHO or FAO recommendations but I cannot find the sources of this information. If there are such international or global recommended levels of milk consumption, where is this published?
