The School Milk list is a service of FAO's Trade and Markets Division<http://www.fao.org/economic/est/est-commodities/dairy/en/>
Dear Emanuele,

For more than a decade, the Southeast United Dairy Industry Association, Inc. (SUDIA), a non-profit dairy product promotional organization, has championed FAO's World School Milk Day (WSMD) across the southeastern United States, connecting dairy farmers with schools and teaching children the importance of milk as a part of a healthy, nutrient-rich diet. SUDIA staff coordinate with farmers and milk producers across the region to visit schools, lead educational activities about cows and milk production, and host a variety of events. The schools celebrate the diversity of our classroom students and those around the world in a common theme of milk's nourishment.
A key component of WSMD is classroom learning. Last year, SUDIA staff distributed 1,200 WSMD activity kits to teachers across our nine-state service area, which included lesson plans, morning announcement templates, activity sheets, coloring pages, pencils, inflatable cows, games, and posters. A school favorite was our "Dairy Cows Around the World" poster, which illustrates fun facts about the different dairy cows used worldwide to produce milk. Teachers this year again have access to a kit of materials, plus more online teaching resources, including Spanish-language materials and a dairy-centric reading list for students in grades kindergarten through eighth grade (available at http://www.southeastdairy.org/school-meal-promotions/).
Teachers and students are encouraged to show their 'dairy spirit' this year by tagging photos and social media posts with the hashtag, "#WSMDSoutheast."
We are excited about joining our colleagues around the world to promote WSMD 2016!

Dear List Members,

Following the success of this year's World Milk Day celebrations, I want to remind everyone to give some thought to World School Milk Day which takes place each year on the last Wednesday in September, so this year it will be on 28th September.

In 2015, the Day was celebrated by around 20 countries. Here is a summary of activities: Summary: World School Milk Day 2015<http://www.fao.org/economic/est/est-commodities/dairy/school-milk/16th-world-school-milk-day-wsmd/en/>

Let us have any news about planned celebrations, so that we circulate them via the List to provide inspiration to others.

Kind regards,

Emanuele
