Dear Subscribers,

Enclosed please find the FAO publication on African swine fever (ASF) recent development. The disease has established beyond Africa, in the Caucasus and the Russian Federation, where it is having a particular devastating impact on small-scale pig farmers, who are losing a valuable protein source and cash income. In the past, the virus was already detected outside Africa from the 1950s. in Europe, the Caribbean and Brazil.

The current publication covers the following topics:

1. Current ASF dynamics (2011/12)

2. Disease impact

3. Epidemiological outlook

4. Response and action

5. Recommendations: prevention and control measures for ASF and other infectious diseases of swine

6. Further reading

The full article, can be find in the attached file
