Technical guidelines on rapid risk assessment
for animal health threats

Occurrence and spread of animal health threats can be mitigated when a timely risk assessment is carried out to inform decision-makers on prevention and response including control measures. FAO developed technical guidelines on rapid risk assessment to provide a simple and practical methodology that national veterinary services and other stakeholders can use to assess the risk level of emergence, occurrence and/or spread of animal health threats.

These rapid risk assessment guidelines describe an eight-step multidisciplinary team approach to conduct qualitative risk assessments fast using available evidence, data and information in a short period of two weeks.

Through these guidelines, FAO also aims to support the design and implementation of specific national and regional rapid risk assessment training programmes for National Veterinary Services.
