PostDoc position on modelling land biosphere dynamics

The Mediterranean Institute for Biodiversity and Ecology (IMBE, Aix-Marseille University, Aix-en-Provence, France<http://www.imbe.fr>), in its research group "Macroecology and Biogeography of Global Change (MacroBio)<http://www.imbe.fr/eq-1-2-macroecologie-et,58.html?lang=en>" has a PostDoc position open for applications. The post has a duration of 36 months, the initial contract is made for 18 months, being extended based on an assessment of performance. The position is funded by the European Commission through the FP7 Research Project LUC4C<http://luc4c.eu/> and affiliated to the French National Scientific Research Centre (CNRS).

The main topic is to improve the way LULCC processes are represented in the DGVM LPJmL through enhanced soil and vegetation process representation. Work should improve the model's capacity to project climate-LULCC interactions for the computation of net climate effects, and ecosystem services. One focus is on the representation of diverse agricultural management systems, cropland abandonment/afforestation and forest management, in order to develop ways to account for their effects on biochemical cycles and biophysics.

The PostDoc will also contribute to the actual assessment of indirect effects and trade-offs of LULCC. The team will look into the indirect effects of land-based mitigation options for climate change, and the interplay with climate change, across and within regions.

The successful candidate will have completed a doctorate in one of the environmental sciences. Substantial earth system modelling and programming skills are required, familiarity with highly modular C-code. Experience with Dynamic Global Vegetation Models will be a great advantage. The working language is English.

We will begin interviewing suitable candidates after December 1, 2014. The position will be filled when a suitable candidate has been identified. To apply for this position, please send a letter of application, demonstrating your ability to understand the task, and your CV as soon as possible, but before the 31st of January 2015, by e-mail to Ms. Gabriela Boéri ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>). For any questions about the task, working conditions, or the LUC4C project, please contact Dr Alberte Bondeau ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>).

Green Entrepreneurship Pilot Program

You can find information on the green entrepreneurship pilot program on the links attached ( agriculture and ICT are also concerned ) the Francophonie , CTA and other partners launched as part of the International Forum youth and Green Jobs . The Forum was co-organized last June in Niamey by the Government of Niger.

FIJEV 2014 - see http://www.emplois-verts-niger.org/ and http://fijev.francophonie.org/

In this context, 15 young Francophone "green" project leaders were selected over dozens of candidates. They have just received training in Togo in entrepreneurship and will receive a small grant to start their project, and also benefit from several weeks / months of incubation.

Further, there is also currently running an e-debate in French on the theme "youth, agribusiness and ICTs", on the francophone list until 2nd December 2014.

Join youth-led discussions

Join youth-led discussions on fracking, food supply chains, rural-urban migration, REDD+ and oil palm. In preparation for next month's Global Landscapes Forum in Peru, young professionals have just launched a series of virtual discussions about issues of key importance to them - fracking, food supply chains, rural-urban migrations, REDD+ and oil palm.

Nominations for the 2016 Nestlé Creating Shared Value Prize
Nominations for the 2016 Nestlé Creating Shared Value Prize are now being accepted. The closing date is 28 February 2015.

Winners will win up to CHF 500 000 (approx. USD 520 000) - an investment that could make a significant difference in helping to scale up or replicate business-oriented initiatives addressing challenges in nutrition, water or rural development.

The Nestlé CSV Prize is awarded every second year. Its overall aim is to reward the best examples of Creating Shared Value (CSV) initiatives worldwide and to encourage others to adopt this approach. CSV runs deep throughout Nestlé's global operations and is based on the belief that for a company to be successful in the long term and create value for its shareholders, it must also create value for society.
In selecting the winner, the Creating Shared Value Council will be looking for an entry that is innovative, applies environmentally sustainable practices, has demonstrated results on a small scale and can be viably scaled-up to help improve people's lives.

For more information and to apply visit www.nestle.com/nestlecsvprize<http://www.nestle.com/nestlecsvprize> or write to [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>
