CA-CoP CONSERVATION
AGRICULTURE COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE
for sustainable production intensification
Dear Subscribers,
Please see herebelow a self-explanatory message from Don Reicosky regarding his and Doral Kemper's interest
"in knowing if anyone is aware of articles showing that root systems under no till/direct seeding go deeper (or shallower) than those roots in conventional tilled systems. We are also interested in trying to see if there's any quantitative data or literature citations to support the effect of earth worm channels enabling deeper root penetration."
Please kindly respond directly to Don Reicosky and Doral Kemper.

I am presently working on an article relating to how tile drainage can increase conservation practices put on an agricultural watershed with Doral Kemper, a former ARS employee now retired. I'm interested in knowing if anyone is aware of articles showing that root systems under no till/direct seeding go deeper (or shallower) than those roots in conventional tilled systems. We are also interested in trying to see if there's any quantitative data or literature citations to support the effect of earth worm channels enabling deeper root penetration. Most of what we have been able to locate is only qualitative data and indirect observations of plant response to water stress.
I have not had much luck on Google searches and would appreciate any citations or suggestions you might have. Thanks in advance for your consideration.
We are presently in the middle of a beautiful harvest in west central Minnesota with good yields and good prices for the farmers. Unfortunately, we can't say that about the rest of the corn belt and a large part of the country. We are having a beautiful fall so far, now that we must prepare for winter in Minnesota. Kind regards to all.
Don
