Dear readers,
The September 2012 issue of the Asia Pacific Food Situation Update (APFSU) reports that an emerging El Nino weather system may last until early next year, as concerns eased that Russia and India might impose export bans on grain because of droughts.
Food prices stablised during August, with the FAO Global Food Price Index holding steady, although domestic wheat prices rose markedly in some countries in the region. Viet Nam exported a record tonnage of rice in August, and Cambodia signed agreements to ship rice to Indonesia and China.
