Al

We are pleased to invite you to Mountain Day 2 which will take place during the forthcoming COP 18 of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Doha, Qatar. Mountain Day intends to highlight the critical role that mountain ecosystems play in climate change adaptation and global sustainable development as well as the high vulnerability of mountains and the millions of people who directly depend on their goods and services.

The event is being organized jointly by the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) and the Mountain Partnership Secretariat (MPS)/FAO in the context of the Strategic Initiative for Mountains and Climate Change funded by the Development Grant Facility of the World Bank and supported by a broad range of partners.

Mountain Day 2 will allow to share scientific and practical information and knowledge to advocate the mountain agenda. The technical discussions and knowledge café sessions will highlight the increasing economic and environmental roles mountain people and ecosystems play in enhancing food, water, energy and ecological security in and beyond mountain regions. The event will end with a high level round table.

We encourage anyone interested in sustainable mountain development who will be participating in COP 18 to attend Mountain Day 2. We kindly ask the Mountain Partnership focal points to inform your delegations to COP 18 about this event. A shuttle to the Mountain Day 2 event will be available from the Qatar National Convention Centre.
