Dear Subscriber,
We are pleased to send you the new issue of the FAO Rice Price Update:
Brief commentary:
ˇ The FAO All Rice Price index was virtually unchanged in October, as stronger quotations for aromatic rice compensated for weaker prices for the higher quality Indica and for Japonica rice varieties.
ˇ Ample stock supplies ahead of the new harvest are exerting some downward pressure on rice prices in Thailand. Prices in other origins were mostly stable or higher than last month.
ˇ Prices of broken rice in Thailand moved in counter tendency and strengthened on a rebounding demand for meeting the specifications of the pledging programme.
For more information on prices, you may wish to consult the International Commodity Price Database (http://www.fao.org/es/esc/prices/PricesServlet.jsp?lang=en&ccode=2311), which gives access to weekly prices of major traded products, including the high quality Thai white rice 100% B and the 100 % broken rice Thai A1 Super, from 1989 onwards. Monthly international and domestic prices for rice and other selected commodities in 82 countries are available through the Food Price Data and Analysis Tool (http://www.fao.org/giews/pricetool/).
