Dr. J.V. Parekh,

I find your article very informative and more so interesting.  We went into the business bottled pasteurized milk business some years ago and had to jump out of it quickly after finding out the quality control problems that goes with the inappropriate type of packaging.  We were employing a batch pasteurization packing in HDPE plastic bottles.  Least to mention the quality of fresh milk entering the plant we were unable to operate the milk business profitable coupled with the fact that we live in the tropics where the heat is a factor.

Now having read your article sheds some light on how milk can be handled in a more appropriate way.  Are you at liberty to share the equipment costs and cost of packaging materials and even the suppliers information?  This would make it very helpful for us out there to have a better understanding of the costs involved.  Electricity rate here have only just increased by 17% which in the final calculation will add up to 18.5% rate of increase from the already high .47˘ $BZ.

Thanks once again for having shared the information and hope you will be able to furnish the info requested above.

Regards,

Orlando Harrison

Dear Paul Kitson,

I received your email regarding proposed project to introduce milk in pouches into schools in the UK.

In India, we serve Pasteurised Milk in pouch and UHT Milk in pouch for public as well as for school milk programme. UHT milk in pouch either flavoured or plain is becoming very popular in India. UHT milk plant and Aseptic pouch filling machines are imported from China or from Europe. I hope this information will be useful to you.

I am attaching my article on UHT Plant for Milk in Aseptic Pouches for your studies.

With Best Regards,

Dr. J.V.Parekh

Hello ,

In India it is predominantly pasteurised milk in pouches being marketed via retailers /milk booths to the consumers . It is being in practice since last more then  three decades . But the mid day milk programe in schools go for long life milk in cartons . But it can be worked out in pouches both long as well as shortlife .

Hello,

We are working on a project to introduce milk in pouches into schools in the UK.

Do you have any data on which countries across the world are serving school milk in pouches?

Thanks

Paul
