The United Nations General Assembly has proclaimed 21 March the International Day of Forests. The Day will celebrate and raise awareness of the importance of all types of forests. FAO will be celebrating the Day with two events. In conjunction with the Third Mediterranean Forest Week, the Day will be webcast live with a press conference, launch of the publication State of Mediterranean Forests and tree planting activities in Tlemcen, Algeria. The publication and video news release will be available at www.fao.org/forestry. Webcast will be available at www.iii-med.forestweek.org/ from approx. 10:00 CET, featuring a video presentation, Round table on Strategic Framework on Mediterranean Forests, Tlemcen declaration and press conference (approx. 11:15 CET). At FAO Headquarters in Rome, Italy, a technical seminar will take place entitled Forests in the Landscape Context and provide updated country-based and technical information on the ways in which forests can maximize landscape products and services.
