The World Meteorological Organization, FAO and the UN Convention to Combat Desertification along with other partners will hold a week-long series of discussions with policymakers from around the globe on how to promote more proactive policies at the national level aimed at building resilience in drought-prone countries. Ann Tutwiler, FAO’s Special Representative to the UN organizations in Geneva, will represent the organization. FAO head José Graziano da Silva will be in Bern for talks with Federal Councillor Johann N. Schneider-Ammann, head of Switzerland’s Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER), as well as with Swiss parliamentarians, to discuss FAO-Swiss cooperation on matters related to food security. Wednesday, 13 March: Graziano da Silva visit to the Netherlands. Graziano da Silva will meet with Princess Máxima and government authorities, and will also sign cooperation agreements with the Rabobank Group as well as with Wageningen University and Research Centre. 13 March: Launch of new FAO project to develop better ways to monitor and measure hunger levels. 14 March: Release of new FAO report detailing the status of sharks in the Mediterranean.
