The Improved Global Governance for Hunger Reduction Programme seeks to concretely improve the way in which the global community works together to eradicate hunger and malnutrition. It is funded by the European Union (EU), and implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in collaboration with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). Launch of new community of practice on “Food Insecurity in Protracted Crisis” and first online discussion A new Community of Practice on Food Insecurity in Protracted Crises has just been launched. This online platform will host a series of discussions to inform the development of an Agenda for action for addressing food insecurity in protracted crises. The first online discussion on “Addressing food insecurity in protracted crises: adequate and appropriate funding” is taking place from April 17 to May 7, 2013. Integrating nutrition into agriculture investment plans: Capacity development workshop FAO has been providing support to the African Union’s New Partnership for Africa Development (NEPAD) to help ensure that national agricultural investment plans improve nutrition more effectively. As part of this effort, workshops in Nutrition Capacity Development have been organised. From 25 February to 1 March 2013, a workshop for the East and Central Africa Region was held in Dar es Salaam. Participants from 19 countries attended the workshop. Key outcomes included country roadmaps for integrating nutrition into CAADP Process and Investment Plans. Additional workshops are being planned. MOSAICC tool: Assessing the effects of climate change on agriculture in Morocco MOSAICC is an interdisciplinary package of models which simulate the impact of climate change on agriculture. New web portal will improve civil society collaboration with FAO A new civil society collaboration web portal aims at enhancing the quality of FAO’s relations with CSOs and NGOs. Testing the IPC scale for analyzing chronic food insecurity in non-crisis situations After many years of use in crisis situations, the IPC scale has been expanded to measure chronic food insecurity in non-crisis and development contexts. The scale has been tested in several countries and results were discussed at first Synthesis Meeting of the IPC Global ‘Chronic Working Group’. | |
New Workshop Report: Élaboration d’une vision commune pour renforcer la performance, l’équité et la gouvernance des organisations de producteurs et productrices agricoles au Niger Producers’ organizations (POs) play a crucial role in the fight against poverty and food insecurity. However, specific groups such as women and young people, are sometimes excluded from the benefits that POs offer. CoOPéquité is working in Niger to support the implementation of policies and other measures to make POs more inclusive, equitable and effective. Consultations on principles for responsible agricultural investments The Committee on World Food Security (CFS) is coordinating the development of Principles for Responsible Agricultural Investments. Consultations will result in a set of principles to promote investments in agriculture that contribute to food security and nutrition; and support the right to adequate food in the context of national food security. | |
