Tuesday 4 June – Press conference at FAO headquarters to launch FAO’s flagship report The State of Food and Agriculture (SOFA) 2013, devoted this year to food systems for better nutrition. The report will be presented by Daniel Gustafson, FAO Deputy Director-General, Operations and Kostas Stamoulis, Director, FAO Agricultural Development Economics Division. The press conference, to take place in the Sheikh Zayed International Media and Knowledge Centre at 10:30 a.m., will be webcast at: www.fao.org/webcast. Wednesday 5 June – Press release announcing Italy’s voluntary contribution to FAO development and emergency initiatives for 2013 at the close of the two-day FAO/Italy Annual Review Meeting.

 

Wednesday 5 June – FAO report on Smallholder Integration in Changing Food Markets to be released. The report says policymakers need to recognize the broad diversity of ‘smallholder farmers’, while linking them to constantly evolving markets, to be able to feed more people.

 

Thursday 6 June – Launch of the OECD-FAO Agricultural Outlook 2013-2022 in Beijing by FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva.

 

Thursday 6 June – The FAO Food Price Index, which is a measure of the monthly change in international prices of a basket of food commodities, is published today (no press release). It can be consulted at: http://www.fao.org/worldfoodsituation/wfs-home/en/

 

Friday 7 June Press release on the status of the H7N9 virus. Despite drop in the number of reported human and animal cases, FAO urges governments to keep up their monitoring and surviallance efforts.

 

Saturday 8 June – Director-General José Graziano da Silva will attend the “Nutrition for Growth” meeting in London convened by the UK and Brazilian governments within the framework of the G8.
