The Programme covers all academic sectors and institutions but the present invitation targets only eligible scientists with a specific interest in crop monitoring and forecasting. The deadline for application is 25th of July 2013. *Here is some additional information: s*uccessful applicants will participate for six months in the work of the CropWatch Unit under prof. Wu Bingfang.CropWatch is China's global crop monitoring system, established 1998 and designed specifically to use remote sensing data to assess national and global crop production and related indicators. The selected candidate(s) will participate in the development and improvement of the yield, area and production estimation of wheat, maize, rice, and soy-bean in China and in the major food-producing countries in the world. To do so, they will work in close collaboration with CropWatch staff and students (MSc and PhD) at the development of new forecasting variables and indicators, their calibration and their operationalization for routine operation. Depending on background, expertise and personal research interest of the candidates, a mutually agreeable work-plan will be prepared upon their arrival at CAS in Beijing. The candidates' technical background is expected to be in remote sensing, biological/ecological sciences, crop modelling, water resources, agricultural meteorology/climatology, GIS, economics or any related field relevant to the international monitoring of crop growing conditions, crop or crop price modelling and crop production forecasting. Candidates must not be older than 45, with a PhD or equivalent experience (*). Travel costs will be covered and candidates will receive a monthly stipend of 12500 RMB (1570€ or 2050 US$) to cover accommodation, living expenses and health insurance.
