23 September: Special Event on Millennium Development Goals Success: Accelerating Action and Partnering for Impact, International Labour Organization High-Level Policy Dialogue side event on the changing nature of employment, UN Inter-Agency Meeting on Inclusive Finance for Development 25 September: Special Event of the President of the General Assembly on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) 26 September: Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Partner Forum Ministerial Meeting on Somalia 24-28 September - The Governing Body of the FAO International Treaty for Plant Genetic Resources will meet in Muscat, Oman, to discuss the importance of plant genetic resources in light of climate change and progressively shrinking land and water resources. The meeting will also review the breadth of the global gene pool of plant genetic resources most important for food security. FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva will deliver a statement via video link at the meeting. A news briefing will take place on 24 September at the Al Bustan Palace hotel in Muscat at 13.00 local time. A valid press card will be required for attendance. Co-organized by FAO and the Industrial Development Organization of the United Nations (UNIDO), the International Association of Fish Inspectors (IAFI) and Marine Institute of Canada, the congress will bring together producers, importers and representatives of regulatory and non-regulatory bodies to discuss food safety inspection, sustainability, innovation in seafood production technologies and trade and export. It will also foster dialogue on how developing countries can meet stringent industry requirements on issues such as food safety and trade practices to improve access to markets and potential for economic growth.
