The withdrawal of the ORAC database from the USDA website is especially preoccupying because the ORAC method had been considered the most physiologically relevant of the chemical assays for antioxidant activity of foods. It measures peroxyl radicals, which is physiologically formed. The free radicals measured by the DPPH and TEAC methods are not formed physiologically. Right now the favored method is the cellular antioxidant activity assay developed by Prof. Liu's group (of Cornell University). For those of you who are interested, please read section 4 of the attached review article.
