Dear Colleagues, I'm Dr. Severin Loul. I work at the Department of Veterinary Services of Cameroon. I am the Consultant in aid of the programme to fight against PPR in Cameroon. I am pleased to contribute to this forum to present my experience to this disease. PPR is endemic in my country. It is the main disease that threatens the livestock and small ruminants. A survey I conducted in the ten regions of my country indicates an overall prevalence of 36%. Cameroon is divided into ten regions and the prevalence varies by area from 7% to 67%. (Antibodies I assume - mod) Some factoring risk for spread of the disease that we've identified in the survey are: 1. The farming method: · Areas in where prevalence is high, animals regularly meet together for the search of pasture and watering; · transhumance 1. Very weak collaboration between breeders and veterinarians. Farmer awareness is very low 2. Unavailability of vaccines; 3. A small organization of small ruminant farmers 4. Wandering animals 5. Poor adherence farmers in farmers' associations. These have been created since 2009 by the Government.
