Dear all After discussions we had in the 1st phase, may I suggest following themes to be developed by PPR-GREN: 1. Morbilliviruses in the 21-22nd centuries (Biology of the virus, phylogeny, lineages and distribution in small ruminant, wildlife, wild small ruminants): could be developed by an experts team designated from CIRAD, Montpellier (France), IAEA, Vienna, (Austria), IAH (Pirbright, UK) Disease surveillance and epidemiology 2. Current status of PPR: Distribution and nature (Africa, Near, Central Asia and Turkey): to be developed by an experts team from CIRAD, IAH in collaboration with AU-IBAR Disease surveillance and epidemiology 3. Socio economic justification of PPR progressive ccontrol: to be developed by a working group designated by OIE, FAO, AU-IBAR Justification 4. Zones of intervention of the PPR-GREN and financial cost: could be developed by a working group constituted of experts designated by OIE, AU-IBAR, FAO, CIRAD . Coordination and implementation 5. Diagnosis and Surveillance (Reference Laboratories and role in developing appropriate diagnosis techniques, including Pen side tests): could be developed by a working group constituted of experts from IAH-Pirbright (UK), CIRAD (Montpellier, France), University of Reading, UK (Dr Andrew James) and PANVAC (Ethiopia). Disease surveillance and epidemiology 6. Role of Reference laboratories in the implementation of trainings courses for the strengthening of national laboratories, throughout transfer of technology: To be developed by a team of experts from AU-IBAR, OIE, FAO, IAEA and PANVAC (Ethiopia).Coordination and implementation 7. Strategies for transfer of technology for the diagnosis and control of PPR: To be developed by a working group of experts from FAO, OIE, IAEA, PAN-VAC and selected laboratories from Africa, and Asia. Coordination and implementation 8. Development of an appropriate reporting system, performance indicators, active and passive, surveillance, early warning and early reaction, trainings on epidemiology: ): to be developed by experts team from the University of Reading, UK (Dr Andrew James) an experts team from FAO, IAEA and CIRAD. Disease surveillance and epidemiology 9. Training of field staff for recognition of PPR, , early warning and early reaction: IAEA, OIE, FAO, CIRAD, IAH and some experts from African and Asian countries. Coordination and implementation. This subject highlighted by Dr Michael Baron yesterday. 10. Strengthening National Veterinary Services: To be developed and implemented by FAO, AU-IBAR, EU, OIE. Coordination and implementation ??? 11. Strategies to improve samples submissions for laboratory analysis: CIRAD, IAH and selected laboratories in Africa and Asia. Coordination and implementation 12. Strategies for the implementation of participatory Epidemiological surveillance, including all stakeholders (farmers, cattle owners, etc.): to be developed by an expert team designated by AU-IBAR, FAO, OIE. Disease surveillance and epidemiology 13. Vaccination (vaccines quality, strategies of vaccination, quality Assurance and control): to be developed and implemented by an experts team designated by PANVAC, FAO, AU-IBAR, CIRAD, IAH and selected African, Asian laboratories. Immunity and vaccination 14. Communications and PPR-GREN: to be developed by a working group from AU-IBAR.Coordination and implementation 15. Research on PPR: to be developed by an expert group designated by FAO, CIRAD, IAH, IAEA.Coordination and implementation 16. Financing (Role of national, international organizations and donors): AU-IBAR, OIE, EU, FAO could be designated as in charge of seeking funds.Coordination and implementation 17.
