School Milk List is a service of FAO’s Trade and Markets Division

Hello Katarina,

Hello Ulla,

what do you think about this development?

For Germany it does not sound good. Because till now the children at school did not like “Pure milk”. Our experience shows, that IF they drink milk, they only drink flavoured milk (mostly chocolate).

How is the situation in other countries?

Where may we get more information about details, like…

For Germany:

How many children may get in the future “pure milk” for free?

Is this only for primary schools? What about the secondary schools?

And do all primary schools have the possibility to ask for free milk for all pupils?

If this is limited to a special amount of EU money who will touch it  and who will decide and how will this be organized?

On top of that, the flavoured milk become than in the future more expensive. Do we think, that the pupils and schools will accept?

In my opinion there are a lot of question-mark.

It would be really nice to know how other countries see the “FUTURE” for school milk under this new condition planned.

Best regards

School Milk List is a service of FAO’s Trade and Markets Division

Dear School Milk Friends,

FYI, on January 30, 2014, the European Commission published a proposal bringing together the School Fruit Scheme and the School Milk Scheme. In a context of declining consumption among children for these products, the aim is to address poor nutrition more effectively, to reinforce the educational elements of the programmes and to contribute to fight against obesity. With the slogan "Eat well - feel good", this enhanced scheme from farm to school will put greater focus on educational measures to improve children's awareness of healthy eating habits, the range of farm produce available, as well as sustainability, environmental and food waste issues.

Would be interesting to learn from list members how you think this will impact on school milk in the EU.

Kind regards,

Katarina
