Dear All, From our experience in work with PPR In Egypt , the PPR control and eradication depend on two main points (accurate diagnosis and good quality vaccination) We have some weakness and opportunities Some weakness: - unrestricted Movements of the infected nomadic grazing sheep and goats flocks and markets and social activities and cultures of owners of sheep help the spread of disease and transmission of virus to different localities. - Under reporting cases was mainly due to lack of awareness of owners which make the communication toughen . - Lack of resources ( fund – training workers – awareness ) - Lack of Lab resources in diagnosis and isolation of virus . Some opportunities - Control measures applied by Egyptian GOVS in case of outbreaks include quarantine around the focus and symptomatic treatment and Increase awareness for biosecurity measures. - Rapid response for any notification and sending samples for lab. - Ring vaccination was started in May 2013 in area of radius 3km around the focus to prevent spread of virus. Animals are vaccinated with live attenuated virus vaccine produced locally by the VSVRI, African strain; Nigerian type 75/1. - Strengthening of passive surveillance - Applied sero- surveillance annually to update our epidemiological situation . - implemented of participatory Epidemiological in some governorates through CAHO group (community animal health outreach) Regards Rehab Abd elkader , Hend Yehya central adminstration of preventive medicine - GOVS ######################################################################## To unsubscribe from the FAO-AnimalHealth-L list, click the following link: https://listserv.fao.org/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=FAO-AnimalHealth-L&A=1
